The Edenian Beaut

The Edenian Beaut is the title of a 1280-page, a 5-volume story I’m currently writing for a 12-season, 100-episode Fantasy/Drama TV series. After completion, the story will be first registered with WGAW (Writers Guild of America West) before I start writing the pilot. The pilot will be registered separately and then comes the final and the most difficult (time-consuming actually) step, which is preparing a TV-Show-Bible based on the story, before submitting everything (Manuscript, Pilot & Bible) to producers. Before I explain why preparing a show bible is the most time-consuming part I feel the need first to tell you what a show bible is.

Well, a TV Show Bible or a pitch bible is a reference document that I as a screenwriter create to help me pitch my TV series. It is basically a document (between 5 – 30 pages but sometimes much longer). A series bible is the standard and the best way I portray my vision for a TV show and expand the universe of my show in the reader’s mind.

As a screenwriter I must outline all the main aspects of the show such as Characters, Story, World, Themes, Arcs, Tone, Style and Structure to make my bible a well-prepared and effective show bible. A series bible is fundamentally a blueprint of the entire show. It gives explicit detail on how each aspect of the show evolves over the seasons. You should know that producers want to know the entirety of my vision, so the bible must be quite detailed and at the same time clear and structured. This is in fact what makes preparing a show-bible difficult. As you see the show bible is fundamentally the look, feel and content of my show summarized into an easy-to-read detailed document. The producer or the reader should finish my show bible with a distinct idea of what kind of space my series will carve out in the television landscape. And my main aim is for producers to be ready to start reading my pilot and keep on reading when they do.

I know how delicate preparing a show bible is because this is not the first TV show bible I’ll be preparing. I went through a lot when I finished writing “In Parallel to the Euphrates”, an 875-page, 4-volume epic novel in the genre of War/Drama, and “Don’t Die on Me”, the pilot I wrote based on it. That was the first time I had to prepare a TV show-bible and God, it was difficult. It took me more than a week to finish it. Because I learned new things I thought it was best to apply them to my show document. I finally wrote and prepared it and I now know I will not face the challenges I did back then but still, I know it is going to be a difficult process.

I have decided to dedicate some blog posts to screenplays I wrote. Of course, you can see them on my Facebook page, which I will share a link to at the end of this post. But I will write a more detailed synopsis so you guys would know what they are about.
